It seems like the Philippine flag is not the only thing reigning Ms. Universe 2018 Catriona Gray is willing to raise, but that of the LGBTQIA+ community as well.
Gray took to Instagram her support to the LGBTQIA+ community by posting a photo last June 15 in celebration of the Pride month.
While many netizens commend the beauty queen’s act of support, there are still those who condone Gray; saying her support with the LGBTQIA+ community does not coincide with her faith as a Christian.
One particular netizen commented on Gray’s post asking about her previous testimony about her faith.
“What happened @catriona_gray about your testimony about your Christianity? Please do not compromise.”
To which Gray replied — that her faith does not limit her from fighting for the rights of others. She added that religion should never be an excuse to hate and put down others.
“My belief as a Christian does not limit me from fighting for the rights of others. I love God and love my fellow brothers and sisters. Religion is never an excuse to hate, put down or act indifferently to the suffering of others. I believe God is love, and I will treat everyone- no matter who they are, to the best of my ability, with love.”
Several members of the LGBTQIA+ rallied behind Gray on social media for her brave comeback:
“Being a true Christian. Thanks Catriona Gray for this.”
“We decided to stan harder. Everyone, here is Catriona Gray.”
Part of Gray’s advocacy includes helping the less fortunate children have access to education. A true queen with a purpose indeed!
