Two Filipino artists’ dreams are finally coming into reality!
Disney chose Darren Espanto and Morissette Amon to sing the local version of “Aladdin” movie theme song “A Whole New World” as announced on May 10.
The announcement has brought a magical twist to the singing careers of these two young singers who grew up listening to classic Disney songs and watching fascinating Disney animated movies.
“It has always been a dream, or as we put it in the movie, been a wish,” Morissette said.
“And just to see that dream coming to fruition and to actually live it —I’m very, very happy and it is an honor,” she added.
During the press conference, Darren admitted it was like a a dream come true to finally record a Disney song he used to sing when he was younger.
“As a child, it’s a dream come true for me to be able to sing one of the songs I would sing as a kid. And now it’s actually an official track so it’s really cool,” Daren said.
The singing collaboration of Morissette and Darren will be used to promote live-action “Aladdin” movie in the country.
The original version of the song “A Whole New World” was sang by the icon Lea Salonga back in 1992. She sang it with Brad Kane and the song won awards in Grammy and Oscar.
Meanwhile, the new version is performed by its lead actors Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott. There was also a cover released last May 9 in which Zayn Malik sang the beloved tune of “A Whole New World” with Zhavia Ward.
The live-action “Aladdin” movie will start to hit theatres on May 22.
