Do you know that you are far from achieving your dream body if you focus solely on working out? We set goals for many reasons. Achieving them not only makes us feel like we’re on top of the world, it also propels us to set sights on other bigger goals. One of the cliché goals that many of us have set is to lose weight. While many of us are able to get past the weight loss hurdle, being able to transform your body is on a completely different level. Many people have succeeded in achieving it, but there are many others who fail as well. Here are some of the reasons why you have been failing to get your dream bod for so long.
You are too fixed on counting calories
Many people are obsessed with counting their calories because they believe that the more calories they consume, it will eventually lead to weight gain. Extreme calorie counting is very much flawed because we might be restricting ourselves to foods which do not provide enough nutrients that may thwart our progress in achieving our dream body.
Instead of counting the calories on every single food we put into our mouth, we should focus on macronutrients. What is this macronutrients you speak of? Well, macronutrients or “macros” are what make up the caloric content of food. The three most important components of macronutrients are protein, carbs, and fat which are best to incorporate in your daily meals to see results.
I could go on and on about macronutrients, but that would probably take up the whole article. So do as much research as possible to learn how to count your macros the proper way. Counting calories may work for short term goals, but everyone has different fitness goals. So in the long run, the results from counting macros will definitely overweigh counting calories.
Comparing yourself to others
We compare ourselves to other people every so often and beat ourselves up over the littlest things. It also does not help that social media is making it even easier for us to measure up to other people. There is nothing wrong with utilizing social media for “fitspiration” (fitness + inspiration). It is when we are constantly bombarded with images on social media that focus heavily on appearance that affects our view on body image negatively.
If you are guilty of following one too many of the so called “fitspiration” accounts on various social media platforms, it’s about time for you to hit the unfollow button. These pictures only shows a person’s “highlight” reel which definitely cannot be compared to your “everyday” reel. Be reminded that pictures online can be very deceptive, because a little editing and angling can make a whole lot of difference. To achieve your dream body, you first need to foster a better relationship with your body. You may have the tendency to scroll through these fitspo posts, but take every post with a grain of salt.
At times you may be consumed by your own negative thoughts. It is these thoughts in your head that hinder you from doing what you are capable off and as a result, slows the process down.
You need to break the viscous cycle of the war going inside your head and start changing the way you think. In order to get to where you want to be, you have to love yourself and your body. Fuel yourself with positive thoughts everyday and if possible or better yet surround yourself with people who believe in you. Take a few minutes each day to visualize how you are going to achieve that goal. Make sure to first set small goals that you are capable of achieving and as you progress, move on to bigger goals.
You weigh yourself too often
Sure it is nice to actually see the numbers drop on the weighing scale, but your weight is seldom associated with your dream body. This is a totally unrealistic approach because you may weigh more but look great and weigh less but still look terrible.
Instead of utilizing a weighing scale, measure your body’s other numbers. You may consider tracking your body fat percentage or simply use a measuring tape. This is because it is very possible to reduce your body fat percentage and still weigh the same. If you are willing to invest in a weighing scale that gives you a more comprehensive data, Omron is your best bet. The Omron weighing scale, gives you an in depth data in terms of visceral fat, skeletal muscle level, your BMI, and resting metabolism. You can also opt to measure your progress with a simple measuring tape. Generally, measure wherever you want to lose weight. It could be your waist, hips, upper thighs, etc. Make sure you record the data to keep track.
You put too much stress on yourself
Stress is one of the main obstacles that could potentially block your path in achieving your dream physique. Feeling stressed is a natural response but too much of it will have a detrimental effect. Likewise, stress is just like chocolate and wine, it is good for you in small doses, but terrible for you in large quantities. It puts your body in constant pressure, making your muscles feel worn out even before you hit the gym. Thus, stress can eventually push you further away from your goals.
Achieving your dream body does not have to have a deadline. Treating it like a marathon will not do any good either. While you are aiming to achieve your dream body, you may face stressful situations or challenges along the way. Your reaction towards these challenges will determine if you succeed or not, because it is essential for you to take a relaxed approach to it. Be more self-assertive and encounter each challenge with a positive mindset. Self-awareness is equally important as you may figure out what triggers your stress response and prevent you from falling back into your negative patterns. If you are really serious about achieving your dream body, you should take a breather from it once in a while and I’ll guarantee that you’ll get back on track feeling even more motivated.
A dream body is very subjective and we should not allow what the society and media depict as a “nice” body to mess up with your personal goals. Nobody said that achieving your dream body was easy because everything we do in life should be a good combination of hard work and willpower. Be kind to yourself and learn to enjoy the whole process of achieving your dream body!
