We are all tired, dismayed and disgusted over the hardheadedness of Filipinos. We never seem to learn. Rizal wrote about it, Jacinto and Mabini lamented on it, Bonifacio died of it. We can not keep on blaming the government, because who empowered them in the first place?

So let’s stop pointing fingers and start by living up to the solutions. Having left no stones unturned in life’s journey, let me share my two cents worth of my contribution to a better Philippines, which I hope you’ll share the practice with me, too.

1 – Give respect when respect is due. This applies to our faith, our laws, people around us and more importantly our environment.

1.a> I try to temper myself when I drive and commute when possible. Follow traffic rules and wag mag lagay. Lahat tayo naghahanap buhay. Be fair. Gusto natin maging marangal ang Pinoy, give each the opportunity to be one by not making them go hungry.

1.b> Mind the line, huwag ka sumingit at wag magpasingit, give way only to the old and disabled, di porket “puti” eh papaunahin mo.

1.c> I teach my kids to respect our country by keeping their trash in their pockets until we get home and not to make fun of national icons and prayer. It is a big No-No to play in Church, burn trash and waste water in our household.

1.d> I tell them walang pagkakaiba ang mga Muslim, Ita at Kristiyano lahat tayo Pilipino.

1.e> I don’t tolerate karaoke singing at home parties in the wee hours of

2 – Unceasing education. That’s what the internet is primarily for!

2.a> Since our government has failed to empower our people through proper education, let us not limit ourselves with what we have learned from school.

Pay your blessings forward.

2.c> Walang extra? Affect those around you.

3 – Save, Invest and be an entreprenuer. Take it from me, mas masarap ang may ipon kaysa madaming kang nakakahon.

3.a> I used to think the world is one big shopping mall, I hoarded on stuff
I knew I liked and would have a need for. When the time came I needed a big amount, I couldn’t liquidate my assets immediately and the stuff I hoarded depreciated in value. Ang porma ko nga, di naman liquid. I failed to anticipate and I failed to aspire. I prayed and asked for guidance. I was blessed with a home based business that started with my passion to design, my computer set up and my network of connections. The rest is history- www.newmediaph.com

3.b> You do not have to be a millionaire to be in business. You can start
with whatever resources around.

Value whatever you have and always count your blessings, aspire and eventually inspire!

4 – Be debt free. Oh, this is hard pero kaya kung gugustuhin.

4.a> When I had credit cards, I used to pay the total amount due so my account will not incur any charges. We have to learn to use credit wisely, paikutin ang perang hiniram para ‘di tayo lumubog.

5 – Know that we owe everything to God. We all have a raison d’être (reason for existence) and we owe our Creator to be the best of who we can be.

Share ko daily inspiration ko since 2009–“Lord when i lose hope or weaken my faith, help me to remember that Your love is greater than my fears & that Your plans for my life are always better than my dreams.”

5.b> I was deliberate and hungry for success when I was younger. I made it a point to make things happen but at the end of the day, I wasn’t happy.

We have two options when we face trials, either we let go and let God or blame God for unanswered prayers. S

abi nga sa getrealphilippines.com: “Prayer is NOT wishing. God is not a genie. God works through you and not for you.”

If we do this COLLECTIVELY, daig pa sa Edsa Revolution ang tagumpay at pagpupunyaging matatamasa natin.

Madami tayong rindi na. Gusto nang sumuko pero let’s give it a shot with us initiating the change from within.

At least, at the end of the day, we can ALL say we tried 😉

  1. Wow! Thanks for sharing. We almost have the same values, the thing is, you might have had it since birth, me, “BIG CHANGE!”.
I used to not care when I was a student. I was selfish. I just think about what I want and how to get it. I was always late, I didn’t value someone else’s time. Lols… It was just few years ago when I noticed that there’s a problem about us Filipinos. Whenever I see someone throwing trash anywhere, in my mind I say “That bastard thinks he’s living in a big trash bin!” but I don’t say anything so, I’m part of the problem too.
Since I’ve met my now boyfriend, he’s German. He taught me a lot of things.
Now, I care a lot about the environment. When I buy something I don’t ask for a plastic bag if I can carry the things I bought. I’m never late anymore, I arrive 15-minutes before the meeting time. I save money now, kahit konti lang basta meron. When I go to the beach, pinupulot ko mga plastic bottles at kahit anong trash para ilagay sa basurahan. I respect everyone, race, opinion and religion. I don’t wanna be called “ma’am” by the taxi driver’s, receptionist, or anyone, I tell them we’re all the same so call me by my frist name.
    I might not have a god, but I know i’m a good person. ^^

    • Hi Grace,

That’s great to know and thank you for sharing.

I may have been service oriented ever since but I took pride in myself for the things I do. Which is wrong because I am but an instrument of a force greater than mine and I call him, God. As I say about those who share the same belief as yours, you may not believe in God but your goodness allows others to see that positive force through you. We have our names to refer to that greater force, and my two cents worth, it’s better to be discerning like you than being lead by false religions.

As the great Jose Rizal wrote:
“No one has a monopoly of the true God, nor is there a nation or religion that can claim, or at any rate prove, that it has been given the exclusive right to the Creator or sole knowledge of His Being.”
~ JPR’s annotations to Morga’s Sucesos de las Islas Filipinas – translated by Austin Craig

Have a great day and keep it up 🙂

Diligence differentiates the winners from the losers. Regardless of economic standing, the determination to move upward empowers one to make a big difference not just in one’s life but in the lives of many others.

“The real tragedy of the poor is the poverty of their aspirations.” … Adam Smith
