America: Land of the free and the home of the brave

This is America. The land of the free and the home of the brave.

Last night, the grand jury of Ferguson, Missouri handed its decision not to indict Officer Darren Wilson for the shooting death of Michael Brown. Last night, the looting, the burning, the destruction, the chaos, the lawlessness begun.

This is America. Democracy’s bastion. The land of the free and the home of the brave.

Those who burned and pillaged and looted and destroyed were not after justice. They were not there to demand grievance nor equality under the law. How can ransacking a convenience store and running away with a case of beer be a plea for justice? How can burning buildings and cars be a call for justice?

This is America. We subscribe to the rule of law. Not to mob rule.

I fault not the looters and the rioters and the senseless, mindless and unthinking mob. No. Wild animals can not be faulted for their violence and rampage. I fault those who are tasked, those who are mandated, those who are empowered to protect the peaceful citizens, their lives and property. Where are they? Are the thugs so powerful and overpowering that the police and the National Guards are unable to suppress them? It is not as if the violence was a surprise. It has been brewing and manifested. Why did they allow the fuse to be lit?

This is America. The land of the free and the home of the brave.

No, this is not Syria, nor Beirut, nor Iraq, nor Somalia nor any other country torn by strife. The government that the people established to protect them is capable to do the task. The government must do the task. Lest it wants the ordinary citizens to take up arms and do it themselves. Then the government has lost its reason to exist.

This is America. It will always be free because there will never be a shortage of the brave. In this time of violence and senselessness, such must be proven.
