There is nothing more exciting than to see your child graduate. All the sacrifices and hardwork as a parent will easily pay off. For students, it’s like a step forward in life: graduating will open new opportunities and welcome you to the world of adults.
For this hardworking single father, it is a double celebration as he and his son both received their respective diplomas this year. While the 22-year-old father marched on the stage to receive his college diploma, his 5-year-old son also earned his diploma from daycare.
In their viral graduation photo, Richard Garcia and his son wore infectious smiles to celebrate his success. Who would not smile by looking at the two, right?
But there is more than meets the eye. Behind the father’s smile lies four years of hard work, dedication, and determination.
For Richard, being a father is just the first step of the stairs of challenges he needs to face. Can you imagine the challenges of working, studying, and being the sole provider of his 5-year-old son at the same time? For this fresh graduate, life is indeed hard, especially after becoming a father at the tender age of 17.
While boys of his age are studying or enjoying life with friends, he was working all night and studying during the day. He entered all kinds of jobs: from being a gasoline boy, delivery boy, factory worker, and as a crew member of a fast food chain.
Every Day is a Challenge
Every day is a challenge for him. He needs to leave the house at the wee hours of the morning and return home late. Still, he did his best in providing a brighter future for his son.
All his sacrifices paid off after his unico hijo graduated from daycare with flying colors. The little boy’s graduation coincided with his father’s graduation. After four long years, he finally received his college diploma after finishing a degree in Entrepreneurship.
The hardworking father attributes his success to his son, whom, according to him, is his inspiration to work harder every day.
