OFW in Critical Condition after Jumping from Saudi Building, Employers Refuse to Pay for Treatment

A 28-year-old overseas Filipino worker (OFW) working as domestic helper in a household in Saudi Arabia reportedly jumped from the fifth floor of the building where she was working in. While her father said she was troubled due to her child being in the hospital, the OFW claimed she wasn’t aware of what she was doing and believed she was sleep walking at the time she jumped from the building.

Identified as Gina Uday Monpon, 28, of Brgy. Kematu, Tboli, South Cotabato, the OFW was said to be having trouble after one of her three children was hospitalized last week, said her father Federico Monpon who went to Bombo Radyo Koronadal to seek financial assistance.

According to Tatay Federico, Gina has been with her employer for only 5 months but did not have any complaints about her job at all. Last week, however, she expressed desire to come back home when her child was hospitalized.

The family had no idea just how troubled Gina had been about her child’s predicament but would later learn from her friend that she was taken to the hospital after jumping from the building’s fifth floor.

Gina claimed that she was sleep walking at the time and was unaware of what she was doing but even with that somewhat valid excuse as some people do tend to walk in their sleep, her employers did not take pity on her.

What’s worse is that Gina is in critical condition as she damaged her spinal cord in the fall but her employers refused to pay for her medical bills. She’s now left on her own at the hospital, with her father in the Philippines doing his best to find ways to raise money for her treatments which could be quite costly considering her spinal cord was damaged.

A lot of netizens reminded OFWs to stay strong and to not let their problems lead them to do drastic things like what Gina did because this would surely not solve their problem but could actually lead to more things to worry about…
