The Filipino community in theUnited Kingdomis greatly honoured when the Universal Peace Federation recently conferred five Filipinos the recognition of being Ambassadors for Peace in a simple ceremony held at London.
The Universal Peace Federation is a global alliance of individuals and organizations dedicated to building a world of peace, a world in which everyone can live in freedom, harmony, cooperation, and co-prosperity for all. It’s mission is aimed at promoting global peace and international goodwill to all. Through its various peace initiatives, service projects and programs, it hopes to help create a world united in peace, love and understanding centred on being “One Family under God.”
The Ambassador For Peace is one of the initiatives launched by the UPF in helping achieve global peace and harmony. Launched in 2001, the Ambassadors For Peace has become the world’s largest and most diverse network of peace leaders. They come from all walks of life representing all races, religions, nationality and cultures. Ambassadors for Peace exemplify the ideals of peace-builders and stand on the common ground of universal moral principles, committed to promoting reconciliation, overcoming barriers, and building peace. Together they form a global network of leaders representing the religious, racial, and ethnic diversity of the human family, as well as all disciplines of human endeavours. Peace Ambassadors also participate in peace initiatives and programs that promote reconciliation and cooperation beyond traditional boundaries of religion, race, ethnicity, and nationality. Ultimately, Peace Ambassadors help promote and practice the ethic of “living for the sake of others” as the guiding principle for building world peace and a global community.
After having been carefully selected and nominated by other Ambassadors for Peace recipients, the Universal Peace Federation formally recognized Mr. Gene Alcantara, Mr. Jerimias Lagudas, Mr. Felix Bayker, Ms. Sherwin Dianco and Fr. Claro Conde as Ambassadors For Peace for the Filipino Community in theUK. Each individual have found to exhibit and demonstrate the ideals of peace-building and have shown that they have at least live a life for others in their daily activities of life.
The ceremony was held at the UPF National Headquarters in Lancaster Gate and was presided by Mr. Robin Marsh, UPF Europe Secretary General assisted by the various committee and service leaders of the UPF service initiatives.
In the following acceptance speech, Ambassador For Peace recipient Mr. Gene Alcantara reiterated the need for a more united community and peaceful co-existence. While the vision of the UPF is immensely gigantic, being an Ambassador For Peace is the first step in helping contribute to achieving this rather huge undertaking. He hopes to learn more and further commits himself in doing whatever he can to the best of his capability in helping build this dream of global peace. He also further encouraged the other Ambassadors For Peace mainly the others who were awarded with him to strive to learn more about the programs and projects of the Ambassador For Peace and the UPF and to exert their efforts in helping build a community of peace and unity for a start. Fr. Claro Conde finally closed the ceremony with a prayer from St. Francis ofAssisiwho greatly exemplifies the ideals of living for the sake of others. The first Filipino ambassador for peace in the UK is Michael Duque.
