Was the Philippines prophesied in the Bible?

We can only speculate, after all, the Philippines was only discovered by westerners, particularly, by Ferdinand Magellan, on March 16, 1521. But if we study these two verses  below clearly; Therefore in the east, in the islands of the sea, from the ends of the earth, you who go down to the sea, you islands, and all who live in them.

Isaiah 24:15

Therefore in the east give glory to the Lord;
exalt the name of the Lord, the God of Israel,
in the islands of the sea.

Isaiah 42:10

Sing to the Lord a new song,
his praise from the ends of the earth,
you who go down to the sea, and all that is in it,
you islands, and all who live in them.

The following lines clearly paint this picture; an eastern archipelago who exalts the name of the Lord, the God of Israel. Now, among the island nations in the Pacific; Oceania, New Zealand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and also even Australia, The Philippines, by far, fits the bill, as 90% of the Islanders are considered as Christians, or shall we say, subscribing to the Christian faith.

While Malaysia and Indonesia also, archipelagic nations also subscribe, and believes in God, they do not ascribe the Lord as God of Israel; They ascribe to Allah. Wait a minute, what about Australia and New Zealand and East Timor? Well, Australia and New Zealand are primarily westerners since a majority of them are Caucasians, and East Timor is not an archipelago, but yes, we can adopt East Timorese as Far-Eastern Islanders who believe in the Lord, God of Israel.

What does this mean to us, Filipinos, and in extent, East Timorese? Does this mean that we are a chosen people? By no means, NO! Israel was and will always be God’s Special People. We who are gentiles, are merely an ingrafted branch to the main plant:

Romans 11: 17 – 21 says these:

17If some of the branches have been broken off, and you, though a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root, 18 do not boast over those branches. If you do, consider this: You do not support the root, but the root supports you. 19You will say then, “Branches were broken off so that I could be grafted in.” 20Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but be afraid. 21For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either.

Why then are we mentioned? Truly, it is not for us to boast about, but rather, it is a reminder for all of us, Filipinos, to be a shining light to our own corner of the earth. We are supposedly the first born, amongst Christians in the Far East, In fact, in a few years, we will be celebrating our 500th year anniversary as a Christian-majority country. But are we truly a Christ-centric nation? Unfortunately, no, while 90% of the Filipinos proclaim that they are Christian, only a few percentage are true-blue Born-Again Christians. True Christianity is not a religion, rather, it is a Christ-centric lifestyle, whose believers accepted the lordship of Christ, Jesus and proclaim him as Lord and Savior of their lives. How will then we become a true Christian? In order for us to be saved, we must:

1) Confess and repent from our sinful nature

2) Accept, and by grace, through faith, believe, that the Lord Jesus Christ is our Lord and savior

Allow me then to share the following verses:

John 3:16

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Romans 3: 23 – 24

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus

Truly, by the grace of God, through the redeeming blood of Christ comes true salvation; not by good works for us to go to heaven as we were then taught. While Good Works are important, it is not the way to salvation, rather, it is supposedly our fruits from salvation. Kindly read Ephesians 2: 8 – 10

8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9not by works, so that no one can boast. 10For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

For those of us who wants true salvation, allow me to share a personal prayer:

Lord, I repent that I’m a sinner, and apart from the redeeming blood of Christ, there is no other way for salvation. By your grace, dear Lord, I accept the Lordship of Jesus Christ and accept him as my Savior and Master, Lord Jesus, save me from my sins and please come in to my heart and take over. This I pray, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen

For those of us in the Faith, we should be both thankful, and in fear and wonder, praise the Lord for those prophecy because those reminds us of our places. We must remember while the Jews rejected Christ and is still waiting for the Messiah, we, Filipinos, and Gentiles, are saved so that, by us, we can share with Israel the Gospel. Various prophecies are coming true, especially, Ezekiel 38 and 39. The time of reckoning is at hand, Jesus Christ is coming soon, so, as bible-believing Christians, we should reach out to everyone and share the good news, especially to the Jews.

As Filipino Christians, we are ought to do the following:

1) Pray for our friends and family (especially to those who are still not saved)

2) Pray for our Church (as a whole body) and for your local church (the church where you go to)

3) Pray for our Country and its leaders, Please read 1st Peter 2: 13 to 17

13 Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, 14 or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. 15 For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people. 16 Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves. 17 Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the king.

4) Pray Israel, for the Jews to be saved, and peace in the area, Remember, as the Chosen Peoples of God, they are ought to be blessed.

Genesis 12: 3

I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
will be blessed through you.
