Retirement… Ready Ka na Ba?
Matagal din akong nawala sa Pinas.. from 1993 till now, nandito pa rin ako saMalaysia earning all the money I can to save for my retirement.
Nakapagtapos na rin ang dalawa kong anak, masayang malungkot ang nararamdaman ko dahil iba na ang purpose ko why am I still away from them. Bakit nga ba, tanong ko. Siguro, takot akong umuwi sa ating bansa; maraming mga turn-offs na pumipigil sa akin to go back FOR GOOD.
A friend and colleague went back only after her 20 years being in a Japanese Restaurant from being a waitress to becoming a Manager find it so hard to cope up with daily encounters in thePhilippines. Ibang-iba ang takbo ng buhay, life has turned into a complete chaos! That makes me freak out… how can I survive SPENDING than EARNING as I used to do here? Imagine, her savings only lasted her for a few months, mahirap na siyang bumalik dito – age issues. We kept in touch, I tried to help her, but again I can’t do much to get her back here. I then realized that even how much you earn, sa dami ng pamilya/friends mo, mauubos din agad. Ganyan kasi tayong mga Pinoy, mapagbigay, we always try to share what we have, trying to please them in every way we can. Typical Pinoy, sabi nga.
We have to save some pennies for ourselves because at end of the day, it’s is US who will look after ourselves after all. Hindi masama ang magbigay, I always say: mabuti na ang nagbibigay kaysa binibigyan, mas mabuti ang tumutulong, kaysa tinutulungan. This is the reason why mostOFWs are still hesitant whether they should go back for good.
Mayaman sa experience, mayaman sa litrato… pero kulang ang savings. Sad, but true.
Retirement for me is something that needs to be planned. Set your target age to retire, make a plan on what you’re going to do and how you are going to do it. Business perhaps? Travel for awhile (you deserve to see the world!) or simply live a simple life looking after your grand kiddos.
Whatever it is, make sure that will make you happy
