Be Proud Of What You Are!

Now, we all know that Filipinos are all around the globe now, earning money for their families back home. I, myself, did not grow up at my own hometown because my parents needed to earn money too. Nevertheless, I still mix around with the Filipino community to get an idea of what it’s like being around people from the same origin. Although I find it rather sad that people have to leave their homes just to earn money, I found a few things that is rather upsetting to me at the same time.

I realize that some people, after being situated in a foreign country for TOO LONG, started commenting about how the country they are living in now is FAR better than Philippines. And they choose not to make an effort to go back to where they originally came from and stay at wherever they are comfortable now. Do not get me wrong though. I have nothing against that, because if you lay all the facts on the table (depending on which country you are comparing with), it will be most likely true. Yes, they might have better supplies, cheaper food, cooler weather and political/economic stability but what I am trying to say here is, its upsetting to see when any fellow Filipino say (and I meant it by HEART) that they are from some foreign country rather than Philippines.

Where is the patriotism in that?

Nevertheless, though we all know that our home may not be as wonderful as other foreign countries out there, if we just look closely enough, it can be as wonderful too. It’s really sad to see how we are all blinded with how great others are and yet we don’t make a progress on our own by putting in any effort to make our home better than it is. I am well aware of how people back home are starving with no home and no money. It wouldn’t be a crime either to go back home and donate to these people who are in need. Not only does it put smiles on those unfortunate people and yourself, it benefits the country to have a helping hand in their community.

Not only that, I think we should all be proud of where we come from. It doesn’t  matter if you were born in other places, as long as your heart says you’re a Filipino, you’ll always be! Peace! ^^

we Filipinos only recently became patriotic thanks to Pacqiao and Pempengco. without them no one would even dare claim that they are Filipino even if they are born abroad. that’s a sad sad sad fact.
