It is the System, not Corona
6000 miles away from home, I read the news. Gloria wanted to go to Singapore for health reasons, the Supreme Court was fine with it. The DOJ stopped GMA at the airport as she is about to face charges for cheating the elections that brought her to presidency for the second time. The Supreme Court voted for Hacienda Luisita to be distributed to the farmers. Noynoy Aquino in a speech, lambasted SC Chief Corona for being a midnight appointee and GMA’s puppet. The congress voted for impeachment of Corona. I would not dare think what is next.
Aquino has made it his platform during the elections to eliminate corruption in the government. This won him the presidency in the 2010 elections. Almost all Filipinos support him without a doubt despite of the rising cost of living in the Philippines at the moment. These events bring me back to 2001 when ex-President Estrada was impeached out to office. Due to public clamour, the Philippine Senate ousted him out of Malacañang. I have seen the same mob of people before, what they were called then as People Power 2. A triumph they believed, against corruption and Gloria Arroyo sat on the president’s chair, Erap served his time in prison.
Before I say anything, let me clarify I am not a supporter of GMA neither of Aquino, but I want readers to consider this thought, we have been through this before haven’t we? Nakapanood na ba kayo ng lumang pelikulang Tagalog na yung eksena eh sumusulong yung mga mamamayan sa bahay ng isang bida, gabing gabi at may mga dalang sulo tapos galit na galit. Tapos sabay-sabay na sisigaw na “Patayin ang aswang!” Or something to that effect. Parang ganun ang palabas ngayon sa mga balita.
There is the issue of Corona being a midnight appointee. I would not pretend I know the technicalities of how the president appoints justices in the Supreme Court. But I am sure if he was appointed for GMA to keep a hold onto power, such situation is not the first time, not only in the Supreme Court but so with the cabinets and so goes the list. Some would say he has “utang na loob” might be true. For me, I reckon, its our padrino system wherein the concept of I will look for your back and you do the same for me is ingrained in our politics. Such values are positive on personal relations to a certain extent but never in politics. That is what causes corruption, a group of people covering for one another.
So if GMA goes to prison and Corona is impeached, will the system change? Has justice been served to the Filipinos after the clamour and hunger for it? Aquino aims to fight corruption but does he know how and where to strike it? Has he struck corruption at the very heart of it? There is a thin line between justice and revenge. I ask the question which is it then?
It is the system that needs changing. We cannot keep on putting dirty politicians to jail, there are too many of them out there. We do not have enough prisons to hold all crocs.

I find the author funny, writer or not when you write something on the internet for public viewing you should be open for criticism as what you will be writing is purely base from your OWN opinion unless you have proof, valid data’s, well researched that you can defend every word you will say NOT to fight and argue with your audience. I understand what you believed in but the tone of your replies to your audiences is like FORCING them to think the way you are as you call other “ignorant” How come? How much do you know what is happening inside government or even Malacanang? That’s why there’s a word DEBATE because not all people think/work the same way. I think you’re writing here to voice out your OPINION but oh well, people see things in different ways and people believed in different things. If too many people in the Philippines is what you so called “ignorant” I think they need a teacher, a good teacher who will educate them base on facts and not base on OPINIONS – duh it’s like a professor who goes in front of the class and just repeat whatever it says in the book. If you’re trying shed some light to ignorant people, man! you’re doing it in a wrong way…. you’re just CONFUSING filipinos reading your so called genius beliefs…
Philippine politics is very distracting and sometimes it’s almost like hopeless BUT just like in the movie there’s always one person who will lead people to make a change, to save humanity, to conquer evils, kill devils and monster and it’s not being done over night, it needs proper plan and it’s a long process. No way to do it in one click, you know? Do you know in order to kill a monster is to hit him/her bulls eye? Just like in Mafia, Syndicate, Evils, Demons, etc you’ve got to kill it’s leader first so you can easily kill it’s branches. Do you get what I mean? It’s the same in politics you’ve got to kill the leader the root of all problems, left hand, right hand etc first so you can slowly kill it’s branches by then over time you can start to clean everything. If you’re saying history is repeating itself – can be, but I always believe that as long as there are determined people who would want change they can change the history. I think I’ll give kudos to President Aquino, he is trying so hard. Hope he succeed though. During Gloria Arroyos Presidency not much of this kind of controversy bec she did things(benefitting her) always under cover, but things change now I think the Philippine government now is trying so hard to find out all the holes made by the previous pres. The government today is trying to make a change no matter how many of you disagree with it, why did I say that? I think because they do things in public not under cover. I guess people know how things work and the difference between undercover and public. If some of you want change then support what you think is good for everybody and just for you. If no one seem to listen to your OPINION go to the COURT file your complaint. ha!

The real agenda behind the impeachment of Supreme Court (SC) Chief Justice Renato Corona is to prevent the 6,000-hectare Hacienda Luisita from being distributed to its tenant-farmers by pricing it far beyond the capacity to pay of the farmers, according to news source said.
Informed that the plot to impeach Corona was set, Transportation and Communications Secretary Mar Roxas, the source also said, quickly seized the opportunity and threw in his support for Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio.
Roxas has a pending electoral protest against Vice President Jejomar Binay before the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) which is composed of the SC justices sitting en banc.
According to the source, Roxas wants Carpio to immediately convene the PET once he is appointed Chief Justice and uphold his protest, declaring him winner over Binay.
Carpio, for his part, the source alleged, invited members of Congress to his condominium unit in Makati to solicit their support for Corona’s impeachment.
According to the source, a member of a bloc in the Lower House and a known leftist party list congressman, also visited Carpio in his condominium unit and pledged the support of his group, which is said to command at least two million supporters nationwide.
He is one of the congressmen who signed the impeachment complaint without reading the Articles of Impeachment.
The support of this bloc is needed by Carpio, said the source as these leftist groups can easily mobilize their group in the event of a public backlash on the Corona impeachment.
It is common knowledge that Carpio has been eyeing the top seat of the High Court.
With the numbers of lawmakers and an organized group already assured, the source further alleged that maximum media exposure aimed at building public opinion against Corona, is to be provided by at least one of the country’s leading national dailies.
“It will be like hitting two birds with one stone,” said the source. “The Cojuangco-Aquinos retaining ownership of Hacienda Luisita and Secretary Mar Roxas taking over Vice President Binay.”
“And that is aside from President Aquino finally having his vengeance on Arroyo and Corona.”
The Tribune source said that the plot to oust Corona was hatched at the Bahay Matanda, the ancestral house of the Cojuangcos after elderly members of the Cojuangco clan reportedy berated President Aquino for attacking members of the High Court which they believe was the reason the SC justices revoked the stock distribution option and ordered the distribution of the sugar estate to its tenants.
“From the time of (President Ramon) Magsasay, the hacienda land was never lost. When Martial Law came, we still did not lose our land. GMA (Gloria Arroyo) and Cory had a fight during GMA’s presidency, we Cojuangcos still did not lose our land. Now that that you (Noynoy) are president, we lose the hacienda!”, the Tribune source quoted an elderly Cojuangco as he berated Aquino in the vernacular.
“You are the reason for our loss of the hacienda, because even the Supreme Court you had to fight with!,” the elderly Cojuangco was further quoted as telling the President.
Even before Aquino assumed the presidency, he had already openly expressed his displeasure over Corona, even refusing to be administered into office by the Chief Justice, whom he describes as one of Arroyo’s midnight appointee.
Aquino’s verbal attacks against Corona and the Supreme Court became more pronounced after the High Court issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) on the watch list order issued by Justice Secretary Leila de Lima against Mrs. Arroyo, barring her from leaving the country to seek medical treatment.
According to the source, the Cojuangcos had arrived at a plan to oust Corona and have him replaced by Justice Carpio. With the Corona impeachment still fresh on the minds of the remaining justices, the threat of being their impeached will again be used against them to force them to support the dissenting opinion of Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno which states that the land price of Hacienda Luisita should be pegged at the market value in 2008, which could amount to P2.5 million per hectare based on the P500 million sale of 200 hectares of the disputed sugar estate which was converted into an industrial estate.
At P2.5 million per hectare, no one among the 6,296 farmer-beneficiaries of Luisita would be able to avail of the land, thus the vast sugar estate would remain a property of the Cojuangco-Aquino clan.
Corona and the rest of the justices want the land price of Hacienda Luisita pegged at the 1989 level which is about P40,000 to P70,000 per hectare.
But with the sword of Damocles hanging over their heads, the SC justices would have no option but to heed the whims of the President.
“It is for that reason that a senior member of Congress had revealed that two more justices are to be impeached next year. They are already threatening the members of the Supreme Court,” the source said.
The other day, Iloilo Rep. Niel Tupas was quoted over a radio interview they are contemplating on impeaching two more SC justices whom he refused to name.
He however later backtracked saying they will not as yet file any impeachment case against any of the SC justices appointed by Arroyo as things have been overtaken by events.
The fight between Aquino and Corona is personal to the President.
That was the keyword used by Aquino’s key allies in the House of Representatives to ensure that they would manage to muster 188 signatures and railroad the filing of an impeachment case against the Chief Justice in just a matter of hours.
According to a source in the House of Representatives, prior to the President’s “green light” to launch the signature campaign to impeach Corona, Speaker Feliciano Belmonte and Majority Leader Neptali Gonzales Jr were summoned by Aquino to a restaurant in Greenhills, San Juan.
Aquino reportedly talked to them for less than 15 minutes and left.
The source said that Gonzales and Belmonte immediately contacted Liberal Party stalwarts and gave the order to start getting the signatures needed to secure the impeachment of Corona.
The source said that to ensure little resistance even from those who could be in favor of the impeachment but wanted to do it without haste, Gonzales and other LP stalwarts who were tasked to “spread the word” about the impeachment made sure that their message was very clear: the president wants their signature so bad that he would definitely take it against them if they would not sign.
The source said that knowing Aquino as vengeful and a control-freak, many of the congressmen had no choice but to sign the 56-page articles of impeachment even without really reading its contents.
“Well at least we got to eat ha kao (shrimp dumplings),” said the source referring to the food served during the all-majority caucus held at the Edsa Shangri-la the following day.
The source denied however that money changed hands in exchange for their signatures but admitted that Aquino used psychological force to ensure that Corona is impeached in the House of Representatives.
“ Knowing PNoy, we are very sure that our constituents in our districts would most certainly suffer if we did not sign the articles of impeachment because Malacañang would find every excuse to make sure that our entitlements are not released. His fight against Corona is truly personal,” the sources said.

Tama naman na ang sistema ng pulitika ang may problema. Pero ang pinagkaiba nung 2001 at ngayon, papanagutin ang corrupt ng isang taong hindi. Dati, pinanagot ang corrupt, pero pinalitan ng mas corrupt(isang presidente na hindi din naman talaga gusto ng marami sa simula pa lang). Alam nating medyo matindi ang ginagawa ng administrasyon sa paglapastangan sa hudikatura ng Pilipinas. Pero kung sa pagitan ng moralidad at hustisya sa Pilipinas, para sa akin mas matimbang ang pagiging moral. Maraming obvious na mali na nagiging tama dahil napapaikot ng mga nakasulat sa batas. Hindi ako abugado, kaya bilang isang doktor na mangmang sa batas, kitang kita ko naman ang kabuuan ng sitwasyon. Mayroong nagkasala. Siguro mas gugstuhin ko na magtalaga si Pnoy ng isang Chief Justice na “Hawak nya sa leeg”, kaysa naman manatili ang isang chief justice na si CGMA ang may “Hawak sa leeg”. Balik na naman tayo sa argumentong yan. Palibhasa ang nananalong President madalas sa hindi eh yung mas popular. Parang showbiz ang eleksyon noong 2010 batuhan ng putik aminin niyo na yan ang tema. At tama ka panagutin ang nagkasala. Pero ang tanong ko kailangan pa ba maulit to? I dont want to look forward to something like this happening again in the future dahil wala nang hawak sa leeg ang nakaraang administrasyon sa gobyerno babalikan naman sila ng current administration. Precisely…and that is what Pnoy is doing right now. You cannot change the system overnight.
Nothing wrong with what he is doing it is how he is doing it. Too much time wasted on impeachment of Corona too much news coverage, money not well spent instead of putting it somewhere else nasasayang sa impeachment. Do it then but do not overrate and focus solely on it. Hindi pulis itinakbo niya noong eleksyon Presidente.
The system has laws but many loopholes because most politicians who run for Congress are lawyers to be more qualified for the position. The main problem is, they use these acquired knowledge not to serve the people but find loopholes so they can steal, cheat and deceive their constituents. The electoral process needs revamping from the Commissioners down to the voters. We as the voters must be smart and vigilant and must study every candidate we put into office. The system is in place, it is only a failure if it is abused and not safeguarded against crooks that don the sheep’s clothing. Let us support our current President because without our utmost support he will also fail. He is not doing all of these, eradicating the crooks out of the government and making them liable and accountable
for himself alone. Pnoy was elected by the people clamoring for true justice. It may take a while for all of us to achieve it but at least, we are on the way to a much transparent and clean government that you and I can be proud of in the near future. Optimism and sacrifice blended with patience are keys to achieving it.

Your first statements says it all. You are 6000 miles away from home. You speak out your mind saying that it’s the system that failed, not the person yet you are not part of the system. We are in the Philippines. It is our day by day situation. It is happening right in front of us, not you.

Open your eyes man paulit ulit lang the upper class controlling the government. Have you read your Philippine History books? Do you think it is the GMA Admin that did the first cover up for each other? Wag tayong magtanga tangahan. Walang kinalaman dito kung nasaang parte ng mundo ko irrelevant.
To those who keep on insisting it is not the system please think carefully what history has told you. It is the same story that happened ten years ago. You need to remember that a problem cannot be cured with the wrong solution. Corruption is deeply ingrained in the government deeper than we can imagine pati mga clerk sa government offices halos lahat corrupt. Ano yan ikukulong niyo lahat? If it is not the system you dont agree with me because I am pointing out something different from what you all think about the issue? What is next People Power 3? Can you see who you brought to power with your People Power 2? Si GMA di ba? Then what you have forgotten that each one of you is to blame as well if she should be penalized so does every single person who joined in putting her to power when they ousted Erap. A mob who is blinded by anger and do not see beyond reason that is why the system will not change because you are happy to just cure the illness with a pill and not realize the root cause of it.

We cannot just annihilate those crocs in an instant, can we?
Are you familiar with this generalization in physics about frictional force, where µk > µs? It simply states that static friction is higher than kinetic (moving) friction as it takes more effort (force) to start an object moving than to keep it moving at constant speed.

I am looking for change. It is true kung ikukulong mo lahat ng corrupt yung masisikip na kulungan sa ating bansa eh lalong sisikip. Parang maling turo sa eskwela kung di matuto puro bobo lahat ng graduate. Sa eleksyon kahit sino manalong presidente kung di niya babaguhin ang sistema ang labas paurong na kultura imbes na sa ekonomiya nakatuon parati na lang highlight ng achievement ng current administration ay ang akusahan, ikulong o impeach ang nakaraang administrasyon. Corruption exists from the lowest of gov’t official ganun na kalala. Tingin niyo ba pag nakulong yang mga kaaway ni Ninoy wala nang corruption? Baguhin ang proseso ng pag appoint sa government officials. Yang batas natin ang puro butas sinasamantala ng mga pulitiko para paikutin ang utak ng mga tao.
