I am a Muslim and I am proud to be one…

I find it really funny and sometimes a bit frustrating when people knew I am a Muslim…these are the questions that they usually ask:

1. Are you from Mindanao?.. No. I am not from Mindanao. I am a Visayan though I was borne and raised in Quezon City. My lineage is both in Visayas and Mindanao. I was borne and raised by Christian parents and attended Catholic schools. I just reverted years ago and my Christian parents are cool about this.

2. Do you really bomb yourself?…No…life is beautiful. Why will i kill myself? hehehe

3. Do you go around and behead? ….hehehe..  NO! I can’t even kill a chicken neither a mouse..the sight of blood gives me a fright…I don’t even have a gun..I don’t even know the differences of different guns. All I know is that they go bang-bang and people drop dead.

4. How many spouses do you have?…hehehe..a girl Muslim can have only one husband… Think about this, if i had several husbands, how would i know who the father is of my kid? There is only one egg and thousands of “swimming tadpoles “, right?

5. Does your father choose your husband? And if you don’t follow, will you be beheaded?…hehehe why beheading is always associated with the word muslim???  NO, my dad does not have to choose my husband. I have the right to say no to someone who I do not want to marry and nobody will behead me when I do this in my own will. When they cut off my head, fires await them…hehehe…God said “You shall not kill.”

6. Do you carry a sword in one hand and The Koran at the other?…hehehe…why in the world would I carry a sword????  I can carry the Koran wherever I go but a sword????

To clear some of the misconceptions of the word Muslim, please scroll down: I hope this would help. Thank you. I got these explanations from Wikipedia.

A Muslim (Arabic: ????), pronounced /?m?sl?m/, is an adherent of the religion of Islam. The feminine form is Muslimah[1] (Arabic: ?????). Literally, the word means “one who submits (to God)”. Muslim is the participle of the same verb of which Islam is the infinitive.[2] Muslims believe that there is only one God, translated in Arabic as Allah. Muslims believe that Islam existed long before Muhammad and that the religion had evolved with time from the time of Adam until the time of Muhammad and was completed with the revelation of verse 3 of Surah al-Maeda:

This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.

The Qur’an describes many Biblical prophets and messengers as Muslim: Adam, Noah (Arabic: Nuh), Moses and Jesus and his apostles. The Qur’an states that these men were Muslims because they submitted to God, preached his message and upheld his values. Thus, in Surah 3:52 of the Qur’an, Jesus’ disciples tell Jesus, “We believe in God; and you be our witness that we submit and obey (wa ashahadu bil-muslim?na).”

Muslims consider making ritual prayer five times a day a religious duty (fard); these five prayers are known as fajr, dhuhr, ?asr, maghrib and ?ish?’. There is also a special Friday prayer called jumu?ah.

By the way, Surah refers to the chapters of the Quran. It is similar to the different books in the Bible. I just hope this helps…have a great day people and keep on smiling. Life is beautiful. God is great! (Allahuakbar) and salam to all…(peace to all)
