How to Create a Marketing Plan

For business firms, the Marketing Plan is a heavily researched, highly detailed and well written report intended for evaluation in organizations.  It is the most important document for startup companies and giant corporate marketing departments.

This plan is designed to cover for one year. Known in small companies as the best guide about marketing, the marketing plan should focus on the coming year for the entire business. It doesn’t take a day or two to make this even if it’s only a four-page plan. In a marketing strategy, this thing involves the list of challenges on what to do and how to do it for the company.

Now, who should see your plan? All the company’s players must see it supposedly. There are just reasons why it has to be confidential. One is it may contain extremely valuable strategies, solid and packed for competition. This is done to force marketing personnel to internally study and understand the past marketing results and future sales result.

You alone cannot do a marketing plan without the involvement of many people because it will have to discuss all the aspects of your company. By doing such, key people of your company can contribute realistic inputs, another dimension to your plan, what are to be achieved and how the company’s goal can be reached. If you’re a solo entrepreneur then you have to do all the undertakings.

Marketing plan differs from your business plan. The latter spells out the description of your business, what to do and don’t do and what your ultimate goals are. It has detail that encompasses more than a marketing plan including location discussions, financing, staffing and strategic alliances. It also spells out the purpose of your company.

Your marketing plan should set clear objectives and lists of actions which should be taken to achieve them. It must include factors such as decisions for the target customers and how to mark them in the list, how to offer your business and make them happy afterward as well as reviews on improvements for your company to lead the competition.

A coherent and well-researched marketing plan will possibly give your company better chances for a long and profitable relationships with your clients. This will boost your company sales and increase your profit.

Business advantages and disadvantages should be included in your marketing plan. This is where you can predict the wants and needs of the customers, their demand products, your competitors, your weaknesses in your business skills, statistical data analysis and the overall business plan weaknesses.

If you are an independent contributor, promotion is better than selecting the media to market your product or service just as what is marked your marketing plan. You don’t need to over think it. For small businesses like yours, the best thing you can do is to think of a perfect marketing plan that covers a story on the effective key points of your business strategy forward for a higher level. Remember that the marketing plan is the heart of your business. Make and design it logically if you want to stay on top of the business world.
