The Damasos of the Catholic Church
Enough! After the grueling years of discussion and debate, it’s time to make Life easier to all – Make it happen Pres. Aquino!
———
Mrs. Jacinto and Mrs. Zamora are both employee of plastic factory. Both of their spouses work on the same factory. They have the same salary and benefits. Mrs. Jacinto lives in squatter area in Valenzuela while Mrs. Zamora lives in a p2,500 apartment in the same city. Mrs. Zamora’s children go to private school while Mrs. Jacinto’s children are in public school but some are not enrolled. Mrs. Zamora secured the college educational plan of her children while Mrs. Jacinto does not even provide the everyday allowance of her children.
They have the same income but why Mrs. Jacinto is far below Mrs. Zamora economically? Mrs. Zamora has two children while Mrs. Jacinto has eight and that’s the big difference that make them financially apart…
How many families live the life of Mrs. Jacinto? How many parents shared their income to ten or so family members? How many students go to school without allowances for food? How many children stayed at home or in streets because their parents have no budget for their studies? How many families live in squatters area because they can’t afford to have a house of their own? How many Mrs. Jacinto we have in the country?
How are you going to deal this alarming problem of population growth?
For many decades, our government has been held hostage by the Church and its belief of natural way of family planning. Undeniably, this “belief” leads to multiple unexpected pregnancies, 2 million babies every year, thousand of street children and family relationship gaps because of poverty. For many years, our country continues to experience desperation and hopelessness; we know the reasons behind but we just let it pass because of apathy. Our government officials let it pass because of worry to what the Damasos might do come election day. Lets make it right now – It’s time to do what is right for the country – take care of your people and stop pleasing the Damasos.
Responsible parenting goes hand in hand with family planning. Without this, we can’t expect an average percentage of sustainable families. Natural way of family planning has given reasonable contribution to level the population growth; however, in the midst of new age, it cannot stand the impact of advance technology to the society. The so called new generation has emerged with new and hyper activities that needs to be properly addressed. This generation needs to be presented with additional options on how they could responsibly manage their sexual activities and the future of their families. There are many studies and experiences proving that using contraceptives can effectively deal the alarming problem of population growth. These studies should be given enough weight.
It is very obvious that the growth of population is one of the factors why our budget does not meet the needs of every individual. Lets take education for example. Before we only have 40 students in a classroom, now we have 100 students. This is sort of saying that the budget for 40 students is now being shared by 100 students. This is also true with health or other government services. As population continue to rise, more people are competing to get their share of the limited budget the government has for them. If it continues, every effort to create jobs will be outdone by the bigger population. If before only 100 people is out to compete for 1 job, today it’s 200, then time will come thousands of people will desperately lined up to get that one job.
We should not wait for that time. The government should start waging and leading the fight against immense population growth. If the church is active on its campaign for natural way then so be it. This will help. However, the government should also present other options to further manage the population growth. What we need are responsible “choices” and access to it.
For the Damasos, what you think of moral does not necessarily mean right. Look around and observe. See if you truly communicate the values of church (other than natural way of family planning) to the people. See if you effectively inculcate the teachings of our God. I know even it is hard to admit, the answer would be “NO”. We all shared the same problem and we end up dealing with this same problem. We cannot give proper and accurate services to the people if they are too many. The scenario will always be helplessness and hopelessness. So give the issue of population control to the government. The government knows the economics better than you do. Run the church and let the government run the country! For once, practice faith. Have faith on us. Our government today deserves our TRUST while we deserve our FREEDOM OF CHOICE…

Unwanted pregnancies could be avoided if only people are less selfish, are more disciplined and capable of self control, exercising a strong will, and capable of making sacrifices. These are virtues that are much needed in a country of disciplined people.
@ MARLON DUMBANG: nurse ka pa naman nakakahiya wala ka palang alam sa abortifacient. IUD, MORNING PILLS… are abortifacients and that’s include in the f–king RH BILL. what a shame on you!!!!! PIGILIN NYO ANG LIBOG AT DI DADAMI ANG POPULASYON!!!!!!
@ anthony: Can you provide a solution for couples to stop having sex? How can they be responsible at sex if we don’t even teach them how to practice it responsibly?
Can we just educate the people “Masa” about the right family planning? We’re just tolerating them and teaching them the wrong things esp this RH. We’ll I am not against contraception between husband and wife but let us also think of the youth and let us think of the consequences it may bring to our nation. Youth might think it is normal to use it. Everybody will just screw it up. Filipinos are not Filipinos anymore. Please think of the youth. Do you want your kids to think it’s normal to do it because RH already exists and everyone is using it already?
We’re not Americans. Wag nang ipilit pa.
I agree with @Anthony Diodato (FB). BIG FAT LIE.
And what Carlos Celdran did was wrong. We all know that.
If he REALLY knows what he believes in, he should have told it to the public in a nice way.
You want to end unwanted pregnancies…..stop having sex. And anyone can read between the lines….PRO-CHOICE is termanology for abortion. And the church doesn’t own the government. The church influences doctrine and ethics. ps—I’m not catholic…..but I still know right from wrong…..we are not talking about controling contraceptives……..the RH Bill IS A PRELUDE TO ABORTION….The philippines are the most educated people in the 3rd world, they are smart enough to see where things are going…..the catholic church is just a excuse to blame for lack of responsiblity—-don’t have sex if you don’t want kids! Its funny married people don’t have these issues. I also never met a single asian family that complained they had too many kids. WHY—because they could control their desires. If you can’t be responsible about sex—–then don’t have it.
Separation of the church and the state. Many declared non-profitable institutions or businesses of the church were held non-taxable. How it became non-profitable? That I am not sure. It is obviously profitable, they mean business, serious businesses, such as catholic schools and foundations (corporations). They said they do charity, but they lack of passion, they seem to ignore the neurotics (taong grasa) and street children, not even giving them a bread to eat (often than not). They hate jueting, but they insists second collection of tithes. Some priests do ride their vios or innova, and they ignores homelessness of some.
It’s a NO…
It is very obvious that the growth of population is one of the factors why our budget does not meet the needs of every individual.
I have nothing against religion. I believe that the church is needed for the spiritual guidance of the people but should leave the matters of the state to its officials. It’s nothing personal but today, majority of church leaders still try to maintain that “power” by rallying the so called faithful to bring down Government. If only our priests instead generate jobs instead of playing the political game then by all mean let them lead the way. This would mean creating more livelihoods for the millions in the country that have none and help alliviate poverty.
History repeats itself. The PRAYLE’s just want to show off again. Thay want to be seen as a reckoning force in the government. They dont care bout the ballooning population, as we can see in their non action in the increasing population of street children, beggars and palaboys. They just want to influence the government and meddle in its policy making. The separation of church and state doesn’t exist in our country after all. Whewww!!!, Padre Damaso has it again…
it’s sad that we are producing more and more less fortunate children through irresponsible parents.. the C. church doesn’t even know it or are they just pretending/ignoring the facts… poor children, they have the right too, to live descently..
There is a logical rule that no one seems to mind in this times. It’s how human life becomes precious and how it becomes cheap. Human life is precious when there is only a limited number of people in a given area. It becomes cheap when that area is already overly saturated with people. Scientists have already experimented on what happens to rats in a controlled environment. When food and resources needed for rats are plenty, they live harmoniously. But when the rat population in that controlled experiment was allowed to balloon where their food and resources were severely depleted. What happened was the rats preyed on each other. They became cannibals. Even mothers with a litter devoured their young. Maybe people might not resort to the ultimate taboo of cannibalism. But who knows what a hungry mob is capable of doing. Anarchy! Who says Soylent Green which starred the late Charleston Heston was just a movie.
The church forgot Article 2 Section 6: The separation of the church and state iis inviolable…..
The Catholic Church is not oppossing measures to curb the population of this country not because of any dogma. They are doing so because it is the only way on which this religion is currently propagating itself. Thus insuring its survival. It doesn’t care if the ballooning population be damned. In the same way, it also opposses the operation of legitimate gambling because it views it as completitionto its business of collecting contributions from its members. Gambling might be something we can do without anyway. But not controlling the population of this country. Logic dictates only one end ta ballooning population. Every single problem we have today will got a a point where it will no longer be controlled. Even today the Catholic Church could not even help every one. We see the effects of their even their own helplessness and non-action on the many street children we see everyday. The street neurotics (taong grasa). The many homeless. The criminals. Even our prisons and school populations aare already overwhelmed. But the don’t see this and they don’t care. To them it’s just the governments problem. Yet its everone’s problem in reality.
Don’t engrossed yourself too much with abortion. It is murder. What is necessary is to prevent unwanted pregnancies that leads to it. RH should cater to this need.
If family planning does not benefit our population…family planning does not tantamount abortion!!! How can you justify the right to live of 5 or more children if you cannot give them the best quality lives they deserve? Responsible parenthood practices family planning…the prevention of the female hormones to produce egg cell so to avoid fertilization is indeed a step to responsible parenthood…there is no ABORTION…and you don’t KILL innocent lives!!! One must realize that the restriction of family planning and sex education in our society statistically speaking produces significant amount of premarital sex, juvenile pregnancy, and most of all ABORTION!!! I am a catholic, and I am morally responsible! And I would say YES to Family Planning and Contraception!
I am against abortion but believes that couples could plan their family through contraceptives. But not all contraceptives. only those that are not abortifacient. maybe if contraceptives is so cheap 50 years ago, i might not have been born. you see i am the 7th in the brood of 10. but we now live in a different era. but the value of life remains the same. Life is sacred. Unborn children have the right to live.
We are not talking about ABORTION here Mr. Diodato – there is a big difference. It is all about planning ahead. Our population is a ticking timebomb. How would you explain so many cases of abandoned babies all over the country? Because of ignorace and education and self realization is what WE all need.
The truthful answers to the following items demonstrate the fact that there is no need for the RH bill to be passed as LAW in our country:
1. Are there such laws that violate the freedoms of their citizens? Is there an existing Law that prevents any citizen from accessing contraceptives or practicing their method family planning method of choice?
2. Should we allow more such laws (if any) in the Philippines? Laws that will prevent anybody from practicing their beliefs if they want to be law-abiding citizens?
3. Is the Church legally preventing anyone from enjoying their rights? Let’s make sure it doesn’t.
4. For the only thing left to the pro-RH-ers(“What about the poor? The state should subsidize their access to contraception and the cost to the family planning method of our choice”) Can’t the State encourage citizen’s initiatives from the “their-Choice” sector to help them start what they want and see if they are willing to put their money where their mouths are at? The State does the same to encourage desired types of businesses to start, through incentives.
If the Catholic Church insists on directly meddling with government affairs and even by going as far as demonstrating against it not because of a political decision but because of a social one then it should it and all it’s businesses and business establishments should be taxed. This way, when the population of this country goes beyond anyones capacity to help the money collected will be used to even alleviate the hardships of the people who will be greatly affected by the balooning out of proportion of our population.
It’s a new world order. The church can only GUIDE us, not DICTATE us. Their just the MIDDLE MAN to our God, not the god.
It’s a new world order. The church can only GUIDE us, not DICTATE us. Their just the MIDDLE MAN to our God, not the god.
i thought Article 2, section 6 of the 1987 constitution of the Philippines declares that the separation of the church and state shall be inviolable.but i guess not.
BIG FAT LIE: you have no idea what you are talking about. look at the USA: over 40 million babies murdered thru abortion, THATS where you want to take the philippines…..it never stopped unwanted pregnancies here……abortion on demand is about MONEY—-and once the government gets involved the corruption gets WORSE.
very well explained and elaborated, i agree to that… i believed that this ¨damasos¨understood the extent of the country´s problem on poverty & its relationship to overpopulation…BUT, i guess…their interest is far beyond the goodfaith…they are using the people´s ignorance and miserable situation to attract more faithfuls (its practically a manipulation!!!)…in a developing and much developed countries the more the people acquire a better quality of life, the more they question the teachings of the church and the TRUTH to it…
I agree with emmylou. It’s been known that Religions such as Roman Catholic will not be as wealthy as they are now if not for the people’s ignorance and miserable situations.
its about time perhaps that people would somehow investigate about the origin of their faith…who knows what they might discover??? lets not be blinded by the beautiful robes and words…. @nessy: Lets´go for it ..
